PSN back online
The wait is over, hibernation begins today for thousands of Black Ops players as the PlayStation Network is back online. I got up this morning to The Lucky One saying on Facebook that there is a PS3 system update, so I fired up my PS3 to find out and yes there was a system update ready for me to download and install, System Update 3.61.
It has nearly been four weeks since the hackers attacked the PSN using Amazon, and starting yesterday Sony started their “phased restoration by region of PlayStation Network and Qriocity Services.” By region people have been reporting that they are finally back on the PSN with tears rolling down their face with excitement and joy, it’s like Christmas day all over again.
System Update 3.61 is going to force users to change their passwords upon log-in.
On the PlayStation Blog, Eric Lempel, vice president of the Sony Network Entertainment has stated the following:
“We strongly recommend that all PSN account holders with PS3s update their systems to prepare for when PlayStation Network is back online, the release of this update is a critical step as we work to make PlayStation Network significantly more secure.”
Sony has stated that their security has been improved with enhancements so that it is going to be extremely difficult for anyone to attack them again, watch the Kazuo Hirai video above to see the changes in security. The outage is also over for SOE players as servers start to come online as Sony begins the “Welcome Back” program.
There is a map showing the different waves Sony are taking in the restoration phase, watch as the PSN returns state-by-state on the PlayStation Blog.
